Chronorama: Photographic Treasures of the 20th Century
The history of 20th-century photography is a source of inspiration and fascination for art enthusiasts, photography professionals, and history buffs alike. To celebrate this art form that marked the era, the Pinault Collection is publishing an exceptional reference work entitled "Chronorama: Photographic Treasures of the 20th Century". This book brings together over 400 images by the greatest names in photography such as Irving Penn, Helmut Newton, Horst P. Horst, Lee Miller, and Edward Steichen. The photos were published in renowned magazines such as Mademoiselle, House & Garden, Glamour, GQ, Vanity Fair, and Vogue.
These images illustrate the historical and aesthetic developments of the 20th century and offer a journey into the cultural effervescence of the time. This book is a true invitation to discover the creations of these great photographers who left their mark on their time. Each decade is introduced by a photography specialist who offers an in-depth analysis of the photographs presented.
Art enthusiasts and photography enthusiasts can discover photos that marked their era, such as Man Ray's portrait of Marcel Duchamp in 1920 or the famous photo by Richard Avedon, "Dovima with Elephants," taken in 1955. This photo has become iconic and has left its mark on the history of fashion.
Karl Lagerfeld: Unseen
Photographer Robert Fairer is known for his dazzling images of fashion shows and his exclusive work for Vogue USA. In his latest work, Karl Lagerfeld Unseen: The Chanel Years, he invites us to discover one of the best-kept secrets of the fashion world: images of stolen moments within the biggest fashion houses. Fairer opens his archives and transports us behind the scenes of Chanel, from the mid-1990s to the late 2000s.
The 250 photographs in the book make palpable the energy of the preparations for the shows, just as they accurately capture the refinement of fittings in the intimacy of the famous ivory and black salons on Rue Cambon. Texts signed by Lagerfeld's closest collaborators and friends offer a new perspective on his creative process and reveal the genesis of creations that have become iconic.
Claquette – Chaussette & Corset: The 60 Objects That Make Fashion
Fashion is a living art, whose clothes are symbols of culture, generation, and identity. It is through this prism that Mathilde Berthier and Céline Cabourg have chosen to approach their new book, entitled "Claquette-Chaussette & Corset: 60 Objects That Make Fashion".
In this 288-page book, the two authors explore the shapes, circulations, and symbols of fashion through a revisited grammar of 60 emblematic pieces. They explore the different markers of class, gender, and generation through concrete examples that allow for a better understanding of the social and cultural stakes of fashion.
Mathilde Berthier, a journalist for fashion magazines such as Jalouse and Grazia, and Céline Cabourg, a specialist in writing long formats on societal issues, offer an original and rigorous approach to fashion, based on their own experience and journalistic know-how.
The book is a clever mix of history and sociology that offers a profound reflection on the stakes of fashion throughout time. Readers can discover iconic pieces such as the Claquette-Chaussette and the Corset, as well as other garments that have marked the history of fashion and have a particular significance for society.
Chloé: Runways
French fashion brand Chloé celebrates its 70th anniversary with the release of its very first anthology, Chloé - Runways, in collaboration with the house. This publication provides a rare insight into one of the world's most avant-garde fashion brands, featuring over 130 revolutionary collections from the brand's founder, Gaby Aghion (including more than 1,100 outfits worn by top models), to the current creative director, Gabriela Hearst.
Organized chronologically, each new chapter of Chloé's history is introduced with a biography of the director of creation. The highlights of each collection are described in short texts that analyze their sources of inspiration, accompanied by carefully chosen runway images. It provides a wealth of valuable information on the sources of inspiration, techniques, and trends that have marked the brand's history.
Since its creation in 1952, Chloé has become an iconic fashion brand, offering luxury ready-to-wear based on simplicity and femininity. The designers who have succeeded each other within the Maison have contributed to shaping an elegant bohemian style that has made its mark on fashion history. Karl Lagerfeld, who joined Chloé in 1964 as a freelance stylist before taking over creative control of the brand, shaped a retro fashion inspired by the 1920s and 1930s, with a spirit of freedom, decadence, and elegance unique to the 1970s. The following creative directors - Martine Sitbon, Stella McCartney, Phoebe Philo, Clare Waight Keller, and Natacha Ramsay-Levi - each brought their own touch to the unique feminine essence of the Chloé woman.
