Glamour and design at Haymarket Hotel
After the Soho Hotel, which became within only a few months a trendy place-to-be in the Bristish capital, Tim et Kit Kemp have dedicated themselves to the renovation of an ancient house. It resulted into a place where design is at its finest combined with a glamourous touch. Welcome to the Haymarket Hotel!
A thousand and one designs
"A whole definition of glamour!": this is with these words that Vanity Fair described the launch of the latest hotel of the Firmdale group. A few minutes away from Trafalgar Square and Piccadilly Circus, the Haymarket Hotel presents its classical and uncluttered front, entirely designed by John Nash (Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace...). Once you have come past the porch, the contrast is striking. Indeed, there are large and brightly coloured drapes on the walls, and whether you waltz past the furniture inspired from the seventies, the master paintings from the 18th century or TonyCragg's sculptures, you feel you are going through different worlds with their own codes. In the bedrooms the feeling is the same: one bedroom, one atmophere, one design. You will thus need 55 stays to exhaust all the architectural sumptuousness of the Haymarket Hotel. Shanghai or Beijing?
No, no, you are still at the Haymarket in London, at the Brumus restaurant. This is Kit Kemp herself who was in charge of decorating the place, with a rather Asian design: red stencil drawn walls, sofa, chairs, candle photophores, everything is carmine. This is obviously a cosy and trendy place where the menu is far from being pretentious. Nothing breathtaking nor innovative, but you cannot miss the smoked salmon, the Ceasar salad, the Dover sol or lamb chops, which are very well cooked by the way. This is enough to satisfy a young, modern and trendy clientele.
Do you fancy a dive while listening to music?
If there is one good reason to come and stay at the Haymarket Hotel - on top of its impeccable location between the cultural and shopping areas of London - it is certainly because of its swimming-pool. It is indeed 18 metre-long, next to a long bar and equipped with a great sound system. It is hard to resist any longer to a little dive in the heart of the capital before going to the spa. One thing to be careful about: you have to book a long time in advance to have the chance to stay at the Haymarket Hotel.
