Karl Lagerfeld’s effigy in a plush toy teddy bear
The first jointed plush toy teddy bears saw the light of day in 1903 and today Steiff has come out with another first: a jointed Karl Lagerfeld. An affectionate and hilariously funny tribute to this genius creator many times over. A word of warning: only 2,500 are available.
"I am a walking caricature"
From a tin soldier, to a video game character and now a teddy bear with his effigy that falls somewhere between narcissism and disinterested manipulation (?) of his image, Karl Lagerfeld has once again struck. With his never failing ironic and provocative witty eloquence, the designer straightaway baffles his detractors as well: "I am only interested in myself and my image. I am a walking caricature that adapts to different medium and situations. I am a kind of every day Charlie Chaplin". Well, he himself is the one to say that...
A jointed "Mini-Me" ...
A perfect copy of the model, but of course without his loquacity, the teddy bear is proudly clad in the «uniform » of the Artistic Director of the Maison Chanel, even imitating the way he dresses: weathered jeans from the K collection, woollen broadcloth jacket, and a black silk tie enhanced with a tie pin according to the “maestro’s“ habits, striped poplin shirt with high-collar and black glasses. The likeness is for the least a bit troubling. To ask who is imitating who... To sleep with Karl every night and to cuddle him as much as you like, nevertheless, you will have to spend some 1000 Euros. Head for the Colette store if you are aspiring to acquire one of the 2500 copies on sale. Good night to all you grown-ups that are really kids at heart!
