Lodge Park in Megève: a trapper chic hideout

The intimate atmosphere is as cosy as a cashmere stole and is exuded by silky fabrics of quiet and delicious shades, hunting and fishing trophies on the walls and the ever-present logs and boards of wood.  Here, the trapper spirit reigns supreme.  In this manner, the Lodge Park - previously Grand Hotel du Parc - one of the finials of Jocelyne and Jean-Louis Sibuet* in Megève, looks like a travel album to be skimmed through over the course of one's wanderings, assembling all the favourites gleaned from the four corners of the world by Jocelyne Sibuet in a "cabin in Canada" style.  The Lodge Park offers the magical feel of a night in the mountains.  Bienvenue!

A trapper atmosphere with a precious feel

This renovation, completed by master-hands, is a big success for our two aesthetes who very obviously love their mountain more than anything.  As soon as the threshold is crossed, one is immersed in this trapper atmosphere with a precious feel.  Adding to the warm setting are cow-skin cushions, gazelle horn chandeliers, sequoia or poplar trunk coffee tables, pine scales outlining the bar, armchairs made out of birch branches and trophies soberly aligned along the edge of the wood ceiling.  As for the indirect lighting, it highlights the chevron of the flannel on the walls and sublimates the scales on the bar.  In the restaurant area, around the corner from a shepherdess in "alligator" skin, one is delighted to discover a drapery of ivory linen adorned in "beige feathers", thus, portraying the imaginativeness and inspiration of its originator, in a play on colours and materials. The adjoining lounge breathes of wood.  The fireplace, insolent in its rustic character, is enticing yet unpretentious, and is embellished with torrent stone and birch logs.  In the hearth, a fire is merrily crackling while the smell of chocolate cake titillates our nostrils.

In the rooms or suites, the design is velvety, fluid and warm

The design is velvety, warm and elegant.  This same concern for authenticity and personalisation that characterises Jocelyne Sibuet is displayed in her approach to the rooms and suites. The cosy and warm atmosphere of this trapper chic sanctuary blossoms in a nice balance in the rooms and suites of Lodge Park where the talented owner has successfully blended old and rustic with modern materials.

Birch or sequoia trunks mounted with glass plates serve as end tables, the fireplace is mounted in stone, the ceiling in strips of wood and the wooden logs that adorn the bed as well as the bed itself are covered in plaids of "fur".It is an ideal place to wake up in when the snowflakes are scattering in the wind, sprinkling the mountain with an immaculate white sheet of snow. One is then surprised to find oneself cocooning by the fireplace, because most rooms and suites do indeed feature fireplaces.

Spa Pure Altitude

The spa's decor is a reflection of the mountain spirit, its strength and mineral elements, which is found in touches in the cabins, or more accurately, areas of well-being.  One is adorned with a rock face while the other is decked with a quiet strength with its trunks of birch wood, beech tree, entangled ash,...

In this place dedicated to well-being and fitness, the treatments on the spa menu are courtesy of Pure Altitude.  One is left to drift with happiness in the pleasure of being kneaded, smoothed by expert hands and anointed in essential oils.  In the end, all tensions seem to slide into the hands of the therapist.

In the restaurant, a taste for travel

The pronounced taste for other places and travel is made apparent through subtle touches in the restaurant's modern decor tempered with rustic refinement.  The logs on the walls have been finished in bluish grey and impressive trunks of wood are used as side tables that blend in with the set of "Chesterfield" sofas adorned in beige and embossed to represent crocodile and lizard skins. The dining room is warm and modern and the usual overload of typical mountain ornaments has disappeared.  Hats off to the chef as well, who has revisited with verve world and French dishes alike. On the menu, wholesome dishes, quality products cooked in just the right way.  A real culinary delight that will reconcile you with life!

Tomorrow we will ski on Rochebrune feeling light as feathers before making a much needed stop at the Alpette, the altitude restaurant of the group, featuring a dessert buffet with a raspberry tart to die for, before schussing back down to the hotel.

My opinion:

A warm hotel very well situated within the village.  We particularly appreciate the personal welcome and the care dedicated to the well-being of guests.  The rooms are very comfortable and the fireplaces greatly appreciated.  In regards to the food, complements to the chef who knows how to cook food just right without excessive elaboration.  We are also fond of teatime with its delicious cakes to be enjoyed by the fireplace.

Strong points:

In the centre of the resort - most of the rooms feature fireplaces, terraces or balconies - the setting is cosy and warm, ideal for the mountain - a menu with quality offerings - pleasant, professional services and a courteous and helpful staff.

The ski room is well stocked in brands of skis.

4 restaurants are available for your dinners as a part of your half-board.

Weak points:

Very filtered lighting, which can also be a strong point!

We would just like an indoor pool for a few breaststrokes and a more elaborate fitness room!

Favourite:

The suite 313 with its small log living room and its fireplace, its bedroom, its beautiful bathroom with a huge bathtub, beautiful window and its dressing room could also be called the Serenity suite.

*Jocelyne and Jean-Louis Sibuet have created their chain of hotels "Groupe Sibuet" which includes Les Fermes de Marie, the Lodge Park, Le Coin du Feu, the Mont Blanc, La Cours de Loges, La Bastide de Marie and the Villa Marie.  Last September, they launched "Les Enfants Terribles" in Paris, a Parisian replica of their "Enfants Terribles" in Megève.  A concept based on an authentic and warm architecture and art-de-vivre, a genuine return to the roots which has been a true success and has united their talents.
