Real Chateau life at the Fairmont Château Frontenac

This is the most photographed hotel in the world! Located in the heart of the old Québec and designated as a world heritage treasure by UNESCO, the Fairmont Chateau de Frontenac dominates majestically the bluff of the St. Lawrence River and the narrow streets of the old city. An ideal hotel for those who would like to go back in the history of the past centuries. Nevertheless the rooms are somewhat small and outdated for fans of vast spaces and design!
The guest is King!

From Georges VI to Franklin D. Roosevelt, Queen Elizabeth II, Winston Churchill, Charles de Gaulle, Alfred Hitchcock, Montgomery Clift:  they all walked through the door of the Fairmont Château Frontenac and looked at the view of Quebec from the top of Cape Diamond. This chateau offers us a XXL legend, 110 years of experience, 618 rooms on 18 floors, including 33 suites. Little intimacy, provided that the chateau is regularly visited by tourists attracted to this symbol of cultural and architectural grandeur and its legendary past. The hotel provides modern facilities for the business traveler as well as leisure travelers: WiFi, air conditioning, luxury bedding, an indoor pool, a fitness centre and limousine service. In short, this establishment, featuring in the gold list of the Condé Nast Travelers Magazine as one of the top 500 hotels in the world, is a guarantee for a memorable and inspiring stay, with easy access to all the wonderful sites and experiences that the old Quebec has to offer

The gourmet side of Fairmont Château Frontenac

Besides its exceptional panorama and its history, you can enjoy fine dining at the Champlain Restaurant and Café La Terrasse at the Fairmont Chateau Frontenac, based on fresh local products (produits du territoir). Chef Jean Soulard, the first Canadian chef to receive the title of "Master chef of France", offers the gourmet papillae an anthology of lobsters, crawfish and ris de veau lasagna with licorice sauce.
The hotel also features a gold program, an exclusive hotel-within-a hotel concept, with 46 Fairmont gold rooms and suites on the private floors between the 14th and 17th floor, with an exceptional personal service. For the little princess girls, the hotel has a special treat: for the modest sum of 3,950 € you can stay in the Princess Grace of Monaco Suite, wear a princess dress and you will be offered a sweater, a nightgown, sweets and a horse-drawn carriage will come to pick you up for a tour around town and afterwards you can enjoy a princess dinner at the Champlain Restaurant accompanied by two VIP adults.
And last but not least, there is Santol, the hotel’s dog Ambassador, who sits in the lobby, ready to greet guests and always looking forward to a friendly pat on the head. In a special partnership the Fairmont Chateau Frontenac and the dog Santol of the Mira foundation will help raise funds for the training of guide dogs. The real chateau life …

My opinion:
An hotel that can not be ignored already because of its history and location. It’s the iconic symbol of the city. You should at least stay one night and ask for a room with river view. It’s true that the hotel is huge and far from being intimate and discreet, but it’s a great location to explore the city.
