A visit to Saint Paul de Vence
4 stars, 16 rooms
The favourite location of Matisse, Chagall, Gide and Cocteau, Saint-Paul de Vence, has certainly not lost any of its charm. Having attracted a wealth of top artists, drawn to the area by its incomparable quality of light, in the twenties and subsequently rendered as sacred with the arrival of the Maeght Foundation, a site dedicated to exhibiting modern and contemporary art in all its forms, the village proudly promotes its gastronomic heritage and relaxed rhythm of life, despite the numerous tourist coaches that flock there incessantly… The Saint-Paul is the must-stay hotel for all those who seek a touch of privacy, without having to compromise on comfort. With its 3 bedrooms and 13 suites, this Relais & Chateaux group hotel opts for cosy and discreet luxury. It is an address where those in-the-know return time and time again to escape the excesses of the surrounding area and to try to recapture some of the timeless charm and originality that the place has to offer.
In the heart of the village
In 1989, having undergone significant renovations, the Saint-Paul Hotel was born and stood out as the only hotel located inside the medieval town’s ramparts. It quickly became the star of the Côte d’Azur and attracted hordes of wealthy Americans, who found themselves seduced by the bijou feel of the luxuriously comfortable rooms, the antique furniture, and the hotel’s terrace situated in the heart of the ramparts, where, in the summer, guests can feast on the finest dishes. However, visits to Saint-Paul de Vence are not relegated to the summer months as Saint-Paul de Vence can be enjoyed throughout the year ; in late autumn, the hotel invites you to dine in the delightful cut stone vaulted dining-room and sleep in one of the hotel’s 13 suites, thus offering you more space than the 20m2 rooms. Without, of course, losing the old-world charm of the hotel…
