David Rockwell at the Bel-Air in LA

David Rockwell has just completed work on the historic Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles. The hotel, on Sunset Boulevard, is a Los Angeles institution and has long been a favourite of the rich and famous. Previous guests have included Grace Kelly, Cary Grant and Marilyn Monroe.

Private Residence Hotel Experience

While maintaining the hotel’s signature style and intimate feel, David Rockwell has restored the dining environments and several public spaces in the Hotel including the Bar and terrace. The design is inspired by the unique and legendary character of the hotel, known for giving guests the sense of being in a luxurious private residence surrounded by gardens. Some of the historic elements have been restored while David and his team have added modern touches to encourage interesting juxtapositions between old and new. The indoor and outdoor environments of the hotel are intertwined, enhancing the connection between the restaurants and the extraordinary garden experiences throughout the property.

Wolfgang Puck Restaurant

In the hotel restaurant - Wolfgang Puck at Hotel Bel-Air – every guest will feel close to the gardens with the addition of an indoor/outdoor patio and windows that open to a lushly planted exterior green wall. Uncovered skylights and stacking doors let natural light pour into the space. While outside, the perimeter of the terrace restaurant will be enlivened with culinary activity to offer a complete casual garden dining experience. The open kitchen features a wood-burning oven and newly inspired menu.

The Oak Bar

The elegant Oak Bar is a cherished space, so David Rockwell has only lightly touched its familiar look. The wood panelling has been sanded and lacquered a graphite colour. The whole restoration together with new furniture has brought a more contemporary feel to this classic Los Angeles institution. A mythical place to (re)discover imperatively!
