The Comité Colbert, gardians of craftmanschip
Founded in 1954 by Jean-Jacques Guerlain, the Comité Colbert is a major actor in the French luxury business. Regrouping originally 14 members, the club has now extended, counting 75 members today, active in ten business sectors, representing the French Art de Vivre in its globality. A growth by number and recognition.
A Major Institution
Since 2006, ten artisans from Colbert houses have received France's honorary title of Maître d’art, sixteen have been decorated with les insignes de l'ordre des Arts et des Lettres and 75 craftsmen received the title of Meilleur Ouvrier de France. A national recognition for this association of excellence that contributes to making French's know-how what it is. Transmission of what is timeless art is also one of the major concerns of the Comité Colbert and in order to continue developing vocations, they also run a joint program with the Paris Board of Education for students in the last year of middle school. More than 800 students from 23 schools have visited the Colbert company workshops. Furthermore, all Colbert members have launched apprenticeship initiatives to transmit and perpetuate know-how. An initiative more than welcomed in a world where craftsmanship is not as considered as it used to be and therefore the Comité Colbert recognition is a warranty for a bright future of France's luxury industry.
