Louis Vuitton Strikes Again

Louis Vuitton and publisher La Martinière are working together again on a new fine art book: Louis Vuitton, or the birth of modern luxury.
The Story of a Legend

In 1854, Louis Vuitton manufactures a revolutionary trunk covered with a waterproof linen. Flat, practical, light, refined, adapted for modern transports, it immediately made the conventional luggage look obsolete and met success right away: a new luggage concept was born. Following suite to French Empress Eugénie, royalty, Heads of State, explorers, artists and moguls adopt the new collection, thus heralding the LV monogram onboard ocean liners as well as in the Gobi desert or the most sumptuous palaces in the world. 150 years later, Louis Vuitton revamps its concept by inviting artists to redesign its famous line of luggage, therefore adapting to a new clientele with changing tastes and needs. The move gets a bigger then ever success.

The book recalls the history of this legend, with 800 documents and original testimonies; its 12 chapters take you behind the scenes into this art in the making, they are a delight for the eye and the mind. Remarkable.
