Vuitton's Show Girl
MarcJacobs gives us a glimpse of his inspiration for the Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2014 collection when dedicating his show "To the show girl in all of us”. Marc Jacobs nostalgically memorized legendary figures such as Emmanuelle Alt, Jane Birkin, Coco Chanel, Edith Piafamongst others in his elegant show embodied in black.
An Inspired Collection
It was all black. Pitch black. Every model wore a dramatic feathered headdress like the plumed horses in a funeral cortege. Marc Jacobs, the designer dedicated the Vuiton's Spring/Summer Collection 2014 ‘To the showgirl in all of us’. But it was the way he talked about how Paris and how the women he’d met in Paris had enlightened and inspired him – Juliette Greco, Francoise Hardy, Edith Piaf, so many French women, artists and musicians who really changed the landscape of the world we live in. He also talked about how this show was a celebration of the superficial.
As for the clothes, they were exceptionally beautiful. Taken from menswear, and then lavishly embellished with dazzling textures. Hence baseball jerseys, football tops, tuxedos, motorcycle jackets, T-shirts and tank tops received the Vuitton super-luxe treatment. The only non-black items in the entire collection, came in blue denim. Funnily enough, the jeans, sometimes patchworked with raw frayed edges, sometimes covered with sparkling jet, will be the must-have piece of the collection.
