Spring Arts Agenda
When planning a citytrip to Moscow, London or Bilbao make sure not to miss these extraordinary exhibitions ...
Kenneth Clark: Looking for Civilisation
The exhibition explores the impact of art historian, public servant and broadcaster Kenneth Clark (1903-1983), widely seen as one of the most infuencial figures in Bristish Art of the twentieth century. From work by the British artists he championed to highlights from his own eclectic collection, the exhibition of around 200 objects will include works by Henry Moore and Graham Sutherland, drawings by Leonardo da Vinci, prints by Hokusai, and paintings by Constable, Degas, Seurat and Cézanne.
With a selection of more than fifty pieces produced from the late 1980s to the present, Ernesto Neto: The Body that Carries Me is a unique retrospective dedicated to the work of Ernesto Neto (b. 1964, Rio de Janeiro), one of Brazil’s most outstanding artists internationally renowned for his organic sculptures. Neto's work often assumes colossal dimensions, such as Léviathan Thot (feminine), a huge installation that will hang in the Museum’s Atrium. Also on display in the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao will be works created specifically for the exhibition in Bilbao, as well as other pieces reconfigured by the artist in order to adapt them to the Museum's unique architectural spaces.
Jewelled splendour in Moscow
The State Museums of Moscow Kremlin together with the Indo-Russian Jewellery Foundation will stage India: Jewels that Enchanted the World in The Belfry and the One-Pillar Hall. Visitors will be taken on a journey that explores the splendours of India: mysterious amulets from the temples of Tamil Nadu, Kundan Mina enamels from Rajasthan, whimsical Place Vendôme creations for Indian princes, as well as exciting jewellery by India’s leading contemporary designers. The exhibition is a tapestry of fairy tales, stories of royal rivalries and intrigues, all told against a background of the colourful fabrics, and the smells and sounds of India’s bazaars.
