A Turkish creation, tribute to Miami Vice
This year, the Collector's lounge, central feature of Design Miami cultural event, was designed by the Istanbul-based studio called Tabanlıoğlu Architects. This lovely Flamingo lounge was only made with candy pink resin walls, floors and details, paying tribute to Miami's atmosphere. Besides the Florida city, the lounge also has been inspired by the flamboyant panache of legendary filmmaker John Waters who used to say : “Life is nothing if you’re not obsessed", but also by the utilitarian minimalism of Mies van der Rohe and the colorful liquidity of Gaetano Pesce.
This 100m2 space, divided in different zones, each represented by a separate piece of furniture that also doubled as an archetypal symbol, received the visit of many famous collectors, artists, curators and gallery's owners. Murat Tabanlioglu commented on the design saying : "As Tabanlioglu Architects, our perception of Miami and its style, including the fragments of Hollywood, of course especially of Miami Vice of our very young ages, is within the design. The pieces of furniture are stripped to their bare minimum, existing as abstract, primitive geometries. They attempt to function not only as utilitarian objects but also as symbols and archetypes that are a means of complex communication with multiple levels of meaning."
