London - fantastic city of extravagence and contradiction
London is undeniably one of those cities about which a visitor just cannot remain indifferent. Birthplace of the avant-garde, extravagent clichés, and with its many paradoxes, London vibrates as a world unto itself. Both upmarket chic and downmarket bohemian, this city attracts us in all its elusiveness.
Just consider the designers and artists like Vivienne Westwood and Elton John ranked side by side with the typically Victorian traditions of high tea, English judges' wigs, city businessmen in bowler hats and striped trousers, not to mention the red tunics and beaver skin helmets of the guards at Buckingham Palace !
