The All-New Negresco!
The Negresco, what else?
Thanks to a 10 million euro investment the hotel’s white façade and pink-tiled roof gleam brighter than ever whilst the Royal Salon’s glass-domed roof, the work of Gustave Eiffel, remains a spectacular sight. Behind the veneer of a legendary hotel, that has welcomed numerous stars of showbiz and politics over the years, the Negresco saw its image become tarnished thanks to its tired-looking exterior, that was not in line with the new criteria expected of a 5 star hotel. As such, a renovation was ordered and it was Pierre-Antoine Gatier, Architecte en Chef des Monuments Historiques*, who was given the task of brightening up Jeanne Augier’s hotel, without destroying its spirit. The result? The luxury hotel is now more than ever a ‘hotel-museum to celebrate France’s artistic creation.’
An ode to art
The hotel’s 125 rooms are certainly still as deliciously quaint with their period furniture, whilst the essential Negresco charm is present everywhere you look ; in the Louis XIII, Empire, contemporary or Art-deco style furniture and gold bathtubs, but especially in the 2000 works of art and paintings that line the hotel’s walls. It is indeed a museum nestled in a place that claims to preserve the grand style of traditional French houses, with their uniformed drivers, concierges and hunters in red and blue livery. In terms of additions to the hotel, we should note the creation of a VIP area on the fifth floor with bathrooms in Portuguese pink marble, which should certainly appeal to the American, French, English and Italian art lovers that descend on the Promenade des Anglais every year, and delight in following in the footsteps of Michael Jackson, Lauren Bacall and Picasso.
