Wine and fireworks for the palate to celebrate Guy Fawkes Night
Famous for its authenticity, picturesque setting and gourmet 3 AA rosette restaurant, the Airds Hotel is a spot of natural beauty in the very heart of the Scottish Highlands. This year, to celebrate Guy Fawkes Night, the hotel asked his sommelier Gordon Davidson, also ambassador for leading wine merchant’s Corney & Barrow, to host a dinner with wine tasting, pairing specially selected Pinot varietal wines with a 7-course gastronomic dinner prepared by the hotel’s talented Chef Chris Stanley.
The perfect occasion to book a romantic trip to the hotel and enjoy its breathtaking views on Loch Linnhe and the Morvern mountains, at Port Appin on the West Coast of Scotland. If you are not familiar with Guy Fawkes Night celebration, just know that it's an annual commemoration which history begins with the events of 5 November 1605, when Guy Fawkes, a member of the Gunpowder Plot, was arrested while guarding explosives that the plotters had placed beneath the House of Lords. Celebrating the fact that King James I had survived the attempt on his life, people lit bonfires around London, and months later, the introduction of the Observance of 5th November Act enforced an annual public day of thanksgiving for the plot's failure.
